Driver to appear in Young Local Court

The alleged driver of a vehicle which had a solar panel come off and go through the windscreen of the car behind it on the Burley Griffin Way near Harden last year has been charged with the death of the motorist.

The Sydney man will appear in Young Local Court next week with police alleging the solar panel dislodged from the caravan he was towing and went through the windscreen of the oncoming vehicle, killing the 49-year-old driver.

University of Canberra Assistant Professor Majharul Talukder was driving with three female passangers, aged 48, 16 and 13, on their way towards Yass on December 8 last year when the incident occurred.

At the time police media said Prof Talukder was struck in the head by the item that had come through the windscreen and he tragically passed away at the scene before emergency services could arrive.

The three female passengers were reportedly uninjured, but were taken to the Canberra Hospital for shock.

Police allege Prof Talukder was struck by a solar panel that was a part of a portable power station on the caravan that was travelling towards Harden.

Police said the driver of the caravan was taken to Harden Hospital after the incident for mandatory testing.

Following the investigation, the caravan driver was charged in Sydney on Monday with unsafely driving a loaded trailer, causing death, he was issued a court appearance notice to appear in Young Local Court on April 9, 2025.
