Fatal crash brings wires down at Grenfell

A man has died following a single-vehicle crash in Grenfell, bringing down powerlines and leaving parts of the town without power.

A statement by NSW Police said that at about 4:40am on Saturday 26 April 2025, emergency services were called to the Mid-Western Highway following reports a vehicle had left the roadway and crashed into a power pole, before the vehicle caught alight.

Police said that the driver and only occupant – a 41-year-old man – died at the scene.

Officers from The Hume Police District attended and established a crime scene, and Rural Fire Service officers attended and extinguished the blaze.

Police added that a report will be prepared for the coroner.

The news comes after a tragic holiday season on our roads. The fatal accident was the latest in a slew of incidents on our local roads, including the death of 21-year-old Dadkodah Williams, who was travelling from a friend's house in Dubbo to visit her grandparents in Cowra for the Easter long weekend.

Ms Williams died in a single vehicle accident about 15 kilometres north of Canowindra at about 7:45am on Easter Sunday. Childhood friend Latisha Martyn shared in a fundraiser for Ms Williams' funeral that Dakodah was an 'inspiration to everyone around her,' and lit up the room with her presence.

"This loss will leave a deep hole in all our hearts, but especially her younger sisters, who she loves more than anything and always strives to make sure they have the best no matter what. They look up to her so so much," Ms Martyn said online.

"One thing Dakodah was sure about was her career, she always wanted to be a teacher and started doing work experience as soon as she could. Dakodah has always had a passion for teaching and it became a massive part of her life. The kids she looks after brought joy and light to her workdays, she absolutely adored them and they adored her."

"Dakodah is a proud Wiradjuri woman and her culture is something she is also very passionate about. She loves her mob and never shys away from who she is. Recently she started getting back into art, making stunning dot patterns on canvas’s and pots. These pieces will be cherished forever."
