The NSW Legislative Council's Portfolio Committee No. 5 – Justice and Communities has commenced an inquiry into antisemitism in New South Wales.
The committee will consider the causes underlying increasing incidents of antisemitism across the state, and the threat that these incidents present to social cohesion.
"The alarming rise in antisemitism, including record levels on university campuses and in schools, threatens both public safety and community cohesion," The Chair of the committee, the Hon Robert Borsak MLC said.
"The committee will look into ways that the safety of the Jewish community New South Wales can be enhanced.
"This will include examining ways to improve security around synagogues, to help prevent antisemitic attacks on synagogues in the future.

According to the Chair, the committee will also be looking into the role of educating students about the Holocaust.
"Recognising that Holocaust education is an important way to prevent antisemitism, the committee will also explore the role of the Sydney Jewish Museum in providing Holocaust education for students," he said.
The committee is calling for written submissions and will hold hearings in May and June.
